National Disability Employment Awareness Month 2015
Celebrating 70 Years!
Held each October, National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) is a time to celebrate the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities. The theme for this year — which marks 70 years since the first observance — is "My Disability is One Part of Who I Am."

VisionConnect™ is a new, free, accessible app for iPhones and iPads from the American Foundation for the Blind that gives support to people losing their vision. You as busy rehabilitation professionals and teachers as well as doctors and other health care professionals can use the app to provide information about vision rehabilitation services to individuals with vision loss and/or their families. VisionConnect™ provides:
- A directory of services searchable by service, zip code, and distance, available in the U.S. and Canada.
- Resources and tips for living independently with a visual impairment.
- Links to useful information on VisionAware, FamilyConnect, and CareerConnect.
- Information on products and technology.
- Personal stories and employment advice.
- A way to save directory search results and email them.
You can learn more about the app at AFB VisionConnect™ App and download it for free at afb.org/apps.
Help us spread the word about the VisionConnect™ App! Doctors and health care providers are in the unique position to educate patients about the VisionConnect™ app. They can "prescribe" VisionConnect™ to patients who need information about services and living with vision loss and provide them with information to encourage them to download and use the app. You can order patient information packets and share them with doctors and health care professionals in your community. Each packet includes 10 mock prescription pads and 10 rack cards. The materials are free; you pay only $10 to cover the costs of shipping. To order, go to www.afb.org/store/visionconnect.
