FCC Seeking Nominations for 3rd Annual Chairman's Awards for Advancement in Accessibility - Submission Deadline March 31

On February 17, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will begin accepting nominations for the third annual Chairman's Awards for Advancement in Accessibility. These awards honor outstanding private and public initiatives that advance accessibility for people with disabilities. Winners and honorable mentions will receive their awards from FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler in June. Email nominations to ChairmansAAA@fcc.gov from February 17, 2014 through March 31, 2014. New Research on Disability and the Workplace

The NIDRR-funded Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Employer Practices Related to Employment Outcomes among Individuals with Disabilities (EPRRTC) has published New Research on Disability and the Workplace in the most recent issue of Ability Magazine. The article focuses on the finding presented at the EPRRTC's State of the Science Conference in October.


Hot Topic Module on Employment After Burn Injury

The NIDRR-funded Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center (MSKTC) released the Employment After Burn Injury Hot Topic Module. The module includes videos, factsheets, a slideshow, and a research study review addressing difficulties, opportunities, and questions regarding the return to work after sustaining a burn injury. The featured video was created in collaboration with the NIDRR-funded Northwest Regional Burn Model System Center. Hot Topic Modules for brain injury and spinal cord injury are also available.

The Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) released a new study on health care transition and employment entitled, Healthy Transitions: A Pathway to Employment for Youth with Chronic Health Conditions and Other Disabilities. The study focuses on the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing purposeful health care transition planning and its impact on employment for youth with chronic health conditions and other disabilities

EARN Releases Two Reports on Disability Employment

The Employer Assistance and Resource Network (EARN) released two new reports on disability employment entitled, States as Model Employers of People with Disabilities and Read "Advancing Economic Opportunities for Business Owners and Job Seekers with Disabilities. The first report examines states as model employers of people with disabilities while the second report examines advancing economic opportunities for business owners and job seekers with disabilities.
