Illinois Assistive Technology Program (IATP)

The Illinois Assistive Technology Program (IATP) has been assisting individuals and families with disabilities for over 24 years. IATP prides itself on providing superior service to the disability community in many ways. One of our most successful programs is a partnership with the Illinois Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) called the Open Ended Loan Program. This program, along with our Assistive Technology Specialist Assessment Program allows for an accelerated delivery and installation of assistive technology that allows individuals with disabilities to live IATP’s core motto, Independent Living through Technology.

The IATP/DRS Open Ended Loan Program has two primary goals: first, to supply the Division of Rehabilitation Services customers with assistive technology equipment in a short amount of time, and second, to buy assistive technology equipment in bulk, allowing for price savings. Utilizing existing programs at IATP like the Assistive Technology Specialist Program, provides an avenue for DRS counselors to receive accurate and professional assistive technology evaluations. The counselors can then make assistive technology recommendations based on the evaluations.  Once IATP receives the equipment recommendations, the requests are filled with an average turnaround time of less than two weeks.

The implementation of this forward thinking program has been very successful at providing much needed assistive technology for DRS customers.
